The Farmer's Plight

On the Suicide Epidemic in Farmers:

The concept of this project is to unite multiple disciplines – philosophy, arts, and science – within a single medium, amplifying a collective voice that addresses the mental health crisis in today's modern societies. While this book focuses on the suicide crisis among farmers, the concept is equally applicable to other vulnerable populations, such as veterinary professionals, the elderly, and women in their first year of childbirth.

This concept was born in response to the pervasive numbing effect caused by the overwhelming information and data overload that defines our everyday existence. Incessantly bombarded with high volumes of information, we struggle to see the forest for the trees. Anxiety-ridden amputees of an intelligent heart, our ability to process information and make sense of the world is severely compromised. Our growing malaise is palpable and far exceeds the temporary discomfort that may arise from engaging with the content of this book. Rather, the book seeks to serve as a wake-up call—a jump-start for the heart.

Through a non-prescriptive approach, this project aims to prompt action by encouraging readers to intuitively (re)think with their hearts—a pathway to escape our collective cognitive dissonance. The "one voice" approach ensures that philosophy and the arts are positioned on an equal footing with science, thereby avoiding the many pitfalls associated with a singular, dominant worldview.
